Many prominent women in the entertainment industry have spearheaded the “Time’s Up” movement, which is trying to not only end the normalization of sexual harassment in Hollywood, but in all places of work as well. Actresses like Reese Witherspoon, Eva Longoria, and producer Shonda Rhimes are some of the big names who helped initiate the movement. Now, other industries are following suit.

A newer initiative, called “Time’s Up Advertising” is one of the latest campaigns under the Time’s Up umbrella. A group of 180 female executives in the advertising industry launched this movement to help stop discrimination against women in advertising and aid in the end of sexual harassment. These executives work at big name agencies, such as McCann, Publicis, and Grey New York. They are working towards making the advertising industry a safe place for women.
One of their recent campaigns, got a lot of attention from the public, even though in the end it was unsuccessful. They released social media posts and a video calling for Brett Kavanaugh to step down from his supreme court nomination because of the allegations of sexual harassment that had been made against him. However, Time’s Up Advertising made a point to not accuse him of anything themselves, but explain reasons as to why he should not serve on the highest court in the country. And although this campaign did not have success, it is still important to note. This shows that the Time’s Up Advertising group are using their platform to effect change outside of the advertising industry as well. There are changes extending beyond social media, commercials, and physical advertisements. Things are changing behind the scenes too. This movement is only going to continue to grow, and hopefully it will end in real changes being made across all industries and professions across the board.
